PLANNED EMERGENCY RESPONSE DRILL CONDUCTED AT BELOVSKAYA MINE WITH MINES RESCUE SERVICE

The Karakan-Zapadny open-pit site, operated by Shakhta Belovskaya JSC, recently hosted a scheduled emergency response drill involving units of the paramilitary Mines Rescue Service. The exercise was conducted in line with the approved schedule to practice emergency procedures and response coordination at the mining facility.

According to the simulation scenario, a KAMAZ crew bus suffered an engine fire while driving toward an observation deck. The driver sustained a fractured right leg while evacuating the cab. He immediately reported the incident to the mine dispatcher, who declared a radio silence protocol and initiated the emergency response plan.

All emergency services responded promptly. The on-duty paramedic arrived at the scene to provide first aid, while mine rescue teams extinguished the fire and evacuated the injured driver. Two rescue crews from Terentyevsk conducted a reconnaissance of the area and measured atmospheric gas levels for carbon monoxide, methane, and oxygen. An evaluation team from Prokopyevsk monitored and assessed the performance of both the mine personnel and the rescue teams.

A total of 18 people participated in the drill, including the emergency simulation actors and the evaluation team. Following the exercise, all response actions were rated as satisfactory.

Such scheduled emergency drills involving the Mines Rescue Service are conducted at the enterprise annually. They usually focus on incidents most typical for the mining industry, such as equipment fires. Previously, employees of the KARAKAN INVEST Group mining company have practiced fire suppression techniques on haul trucks, excavators, and bulldozers.
