As part of its career guidance initiative, KARAKAN INVEST Group organized an introductory tour for students from Secondary General Education School No. 16 of Belovo (Inskoy village). The students gained an insider’s look at the operations of a coal mining company, tried out the driver’s seats of mining equipment, and enjoyed a lunch just like real miners.
Career guidance tours for school and university students are a well-established practice within the holding. Most often, the enterprise hosts groups from nearby educational institutions in Belovo, Inskoy, and Novy Karakan.
This visit by the students of School No. 16 was a follow-up to a meeting held earlier this year, when representatives of the Group’s mining division, Shakhta Belovskaya CJSC, visited their school. After presentations by an ecologist, an area surveyor, and a deputy chief process engineer, the children were eager to see open-pit mining operations with their own eyes.
The tour was attended by ninth-graders, those already considering their future careers and further education. Before heading to the production site, the guests received a safety briefing and were issued helmets and high-visibility vests. The students were transported along the introductory route in a crew bus.
Oleg Zlobin, Technical Director of Shakhta Belovskaya CJSC served as the primary guide, using the Karakansky-Zapadny open-pit mining area as a site. Due to weather conditions, driving through the face was not possible, so its structure was explained to the students from a specially equipped observation deck.
The children were also shown the main coal warehouse of the Group’s trade and logistics company, BELCOMMERCE LLC. In the repair shop of the mining transport department, they were given the opportunity to step into the roles of a haul truck driver and a motor grader operator.
The final stop of the tour was a demonstration of the aerial photography system used to create precise topographic plans and digital models of the open-pit mine. Specialists from the Chief Surveyor's Office of Shakhta Belovskaya CJSC demonstrated the full cycle of the system operation, from takeoff to landing.
The students’ interests went beyond coal mining. They asked about the construction of haul roads within the pit, the land reclamation process for mined-out areas, social support measures for employees, and the holding’s charitable projects.
The tour concluded with a traditional lunch: soup, a main course, buns, and dried fruit drink. Their lunch was served in the same thermal containers used to deliver meals to workers at the mining face. All guests received commemorative gifts from KARAKAN INVEST.
