Children of the KARAKAN INVEST group of companies' employees found out what their mothers' and fathers' jobs look like during a facility tour. The tour is held annually on the company's premises ahead of Miners' Day.
The Open Doors Day (also known as the "Day Without Turnstiles") is a long-standing tradition of the holding, timed to coincide with the main industry holiday. Thanks to this event, children have the opportunity not only to visit their parents' workplace but also to learn about the overall structure of a coal mining enterprise, get acquainted with various professions, and explore different types of mining and transport equipment.
Before the tour began, the children received an introductory safety briefing and were issued high-visibility vests and safety helmets. The kids were transported along the route in a crew bus, accompanied by adults.
The young guests were shown the main coal warehouse of the holding's trading and logistics company, BELCOMMERCE LLC, and were taken to the Karakansky-Zapadny open-pit mining site of Shakhta Belovskaya CJSC. Ivan Glukhov, Chief Engineer of the mining enterprise, told the children how coal was formed, where it is used, how it is mined, and what machines are used for this process.
The tour participants had the opportunity to try themselves as equipment operators and drivers. A walking excavator ESh 6/45 awaited them at a special site in the pit. Near the repair shop of the mining and transport section, a 130-ton BelAZ truck, a bulldozer, a crawler excavator, and a loader were at the children's disposal. Under adult supervision, the children were allowed to climb into the cabs, touch the controls, and sound the horns.
A specialist from the Chief Mine Surveyor Service of Shakhta Belovskaya CJSC demonstrated the operation of an aerial photography system used to create accurate topographic maps and build digital models of open-pit mining areas.
At the end of the tour, the children were served an authentic miners' lunch from thermoses and received memorable souvenirs.
